Benitez calls on Inter to strengthen
Inter coach Rafael Benitez has asked his club to strengthen in the January transfer window.
• Moratti: Signing Messi is no joke
Inter, Treble winners under Jose Mourinho last season, failed to make any significant signings during the summer, with attempts to bring in Javier Mascherano and Dirk Kuyt from Liverpool failing to come off.
Inter are currently third in Serie A, two points behind leaders Lazio, and Benitez has asked president Massimo Moratti to bolster the squad for the second half of the campaign.
"We have two or three situations to analyse and then we will decide with the president and Marco Branca where to intervene," he told Sky Sport Italia. "I think we need to buy new players in January so we can stay sharp right until the end of the season."
Inter secured a 1-0 win over Cagliari on Sunday and Benitez feels his side is on track.
"It's always important to win, and it was even more important to win today with several players just back from injury," he said. "We had control of the game. We made one or two mistakes but it was these errors that created chances for our opponents."
