ANICHEBE VOWS Everton 'll wreck Liverpool
Nigeria's Victor Anichebe has warned Liverpool that Everton are on the rise going into their FA Cup semi-final showdown.
The Merseyside rivals clash at Wembley next weekend with a cup final berth and the chance of silverware at stake.
And despite Kenny Dalglish’s Reds winning both meetings in the Premier League, Anichebe says their recent good form coupled with their placing above Liverpool in the league table gives them an advantage.
“I don’t think its revenge [we are looking for],” Anichebe said. “I think when we go into the game, the best team will win on the day. Whether it is us or them we are going in confident.
“We’re playing great, look where we are in the league. We’re rising. It’s our typical end of season finish but hopefully on the day we can stand up and be counted and do everyone proud.”
Interestingly, the Super Eagles forward’s deflected effort 9 minutes from time sealed a 4-0 victory over Sunderland on Easter Monday and extended Toffees’s unbeaten run over the Black Cats to 18 games in all competitions.
The Nigeria international who was a late second-half sub for Marouane Fellaini on the 78th minute mark, enjoyed the excellent performance of Steven Pienaar who escaped two challenges on the right-hand side to pull back to Anichebe, whose intial strike was going wide before it deflected off Colback to wrong-foot Mignolet and fly into the net. A result ensured the David Moyes' side go into Sunday's FA Cup semi-final with a confident victory at Goodison Park.
Earlier on, Magaye Gueye put the Toffees ahead with a blasted effort from close range, before Stephen Pienaar and Leon Osman scored two wonder goals within a minute of each other. |
