R: You are not possibly dating currently? Most likely not since you are working?
GHS: no I am unable to. (laughter)
L: How many times have you even dated? Even if impulsively.
GHS: properly twice.
L: kyaa..whoever they were, I am very envious. (laughter)
R: What was the ending like? Usually the All-In styles tend to get left behind.
GHS: (looking down and shyly) yes,, I was left.L & R: Really?
GHS: yes, I think so..
R: (indignantly) Who abandons a person like GHS?
R: That seems to happen to most of all-in types.
R: I think you would have ah-gyo (being cutesy). Looking at your appearance, I would think you do have ae-gyo. But looking at the kind of work that you do, I would think you are more free and direct and easy = tul-tul ha dah.
L: to me I think your personality seem more free and direct.
GHS: Yes, however, I can be cutesy sometimes.
R: Then, can you show a sample for us oppa’s? (audience cheers.) IN what situations, do you show ae-gyo? When you want a kiss?
L: Are you going to have her ask us for kiss? No, don’t do that.
R: I mean, in what situations do you show ae-gyo?
GHS: When I say things like I miss you.
L: Don’t think that you are doing it for us but that you are thinking about some third party somewhere..
GHS: oh, what do I do??? First let me apologize to everyone. (here, GHS says in a cute kiddy voice, bo-go-ship-uh and just cracks up with embarrasement.)
L: I don’t think you have any ae-gyo.
R: It just sounds pitiful. (he is laughing)
L: You said that you do not sing SNSD and Wonder Girls songs well.
GHS: My mouth just cannot follow along.
L: I heard that you were going to be a member of 2NE1?
GHS: I heard about it later but I did not know about it,
L: Ah, so you never thought about it yourself. Did Pres.Yang thought about it?
GHS: no. I found out through Park Boem in another program. IF I did, it would have been a big mistake.
R: Why you cannot dance?
GHS: I would have been a nuisance to the group.
L: But I think that you would do everything very well.
R: do you dance well?
GHS: (looking at mc with some anxiety) no ,,yes,,yes,,
Mc is looking also
GHS: I feel like you are going to make me do it.
Mc’s No, No, we are not going to make you do it. This is radio program. Should we do it? L. dances a little.
L: You said no to the question about being an extremely hard worker. But, without trying, how can you make something like this? (i.e. movie) I think that you were just being modest.
R: is that something that you are born with?
GHS: I tend to be lazy even when I am making this movie or when I am doing a drama.. I am lazy that I would look at other people and then start studying.
On screen: due to laziness, she learns more by looking at other people.
L: Even when you look at other people, that is putting in effort as well.
Mc’s: the next time that you are asked about this question, please answer YES.
GHS: yes, (I wonder why she is way too modest in this program? Is it because this is a show with live audience so close—stage fright? Is it because CulTwo show supposedly has the highest rating and she is trying to be even more cautious not to make more anti-fans?, etc.)
L: GHS-ssi, listen to this oppa! You are a true hard-worker!
GHS: yes.
L: OK, she has finally accepted.
R: You said NO to the question about having a world of your own that nobody knows. (This question about her being 4-D—most of the time she does not like to be considered that way.)
GHS: I don’t think I am really like that.
L: You feel you are just average.
GHS: yes, I don’t think I am that different from others.
L: (they are not going to let it go that easy!) Do you enjoy doing things by yourself?
GHS: yes, I enjoy doing things by myself but I also enjoy doing things with friends.
R: Do you ever consider that you like special kind of humor? Bit different from others, maybe? Something like you may not laugh when others do or vice versa?
GHS: I really like subway humor.
L: what is that?
GHS: humor that you may hear at the beginning of the subway ride but you don’t get the joke until you are ready to get off the subway. That kind of humor.
L: Ahh, those humor that makes you think..
GHS: yes.
L: the kind of jokes that you finally laugh when you go home and you are flushing the toilet. (laughter from audience) You heard it while back but then you get it much later.
GHS: yes, I told one such joke in a program.
Mc’s: what was it?
GHS: (to audience) Do you know why it is called ‘Nham-Ah-Gong world-cup’?
(I believe Nham-Ah means South Africa, as in World Cup occurring in South Africa. But the joke has to do with each syllable of the Korean word in that phrase and expanding on it. You have to know the Korean words to make sense of it.)
L: ahh, because there are too many balls left behind?~~that is the meaning of each different syllable of the phrase.)
GHS: yes, that is right! (GHS laughed but the two mc’s have NO reaction, so GHS apologizes.)
L: That is not a funny subway joke..That is a kind of joke where you curse as you are flushing the toilet. (laughter and the image on the screen is GHS being struck by a firy lightening on her shoulder)
L: so, you like that kind of humor.
GHS: I did not really care for it in the past. But recently, I find that so funny.
R: What happens when you freeze a Oh-Ri = duck?
GHS: I don’t know?
R: un-duk ~~(un-duk as one word means a hill but separately, un=frozen and duk=English word for duck or Oh-Ri in Korean.)
L: What road does NoRoo walk on?
GHS: I don’t know?
L: Norway. (GHS laughs) That kind of humor, right?
(Above joke by L—I am not sure since I don’t know what No-Roo means—maybe someone’s name?)
R: I get it , You like this kind of jokes,,,
L: Who wins if a tiger and lion fight?
GHS:??
L: The strong one wins.
(GHS did not get that one and does not laugh. I don’t get that one either.) |

R: I don’t think that joke worked on her. Not that one.
L: If I get angry, I can be scary. You said YES. Actually who would not be scary if that person is very angry.
GHS: Yes. If the other person can be ungrateful or has no manners, I can get mad at that person.
R: Then do you point it out in that situation?
GHS: In the beginning, I may prepare for it. I am also not the most well-mannered person in this world.
R; But you are not it??
GHS: But you are worse than I am,,
L: Have you even hit someone? Because you were so angry and could not hold back?
GHS: Ah, yes, when I was very young, I think I may have.
L: Is there somebody who is your life’s alpha plus (A+) to you in this world.? Someone that made you feel like you are here today.
GHS: She passes away last year. She was a representative from a movie company. She was quite a big figure in the movie industry. Without her, I could not have made movies.
L: I think that we all see to have someone who is like a plus alpha in our lives.
GHS: This is a fun program and I feel like I am ruining it.
L: No, once in a while in the middle, it was very interesting. (laughter) Nothing can be 100% funny. It is good if we have few bursts of laughter here and there.
R; Program with GHS-ssi would be like people going home and while they are brushing their teeth and while gargling, they will suddenly remember and have a good laugh. (he shows how it could be done. )
L: In our program, we also want to learn about the guest so sometimes it is very serious. But we had a really fun time and it was very comfortable. ,,Ok, it is now time to close. So as your last word, please tell us your next plan and also a word to promote your movie.
GHS: Currently I am preparing to do a drama so I will soon greet you all with a drama. And the movie opens on June 24th . So if you like music, please come.
R: Ask them to help you.
GHS: (begging with her voice) Please help me. (laughter)
L:As you all know, GHS ? works very hard and she is also modest. She has beautiful smile and so many talents. That is why I do believe that she already receives lots of love from all of you. I hope that you continue to receive more love from Korea as actress, as director and by doing many other things.
R: Thank you very much and continue to show your pretty smile for all of us.

L: After the question and answer, we will talk further on them. The first question is: even I think I am pretty. Yes or No?
GHS: no,, (GHS laughs and audience all disagree and so do mc’s)
R: Be honest.
GHS: really, honestly, no.
L & R: I am yes,,me too,,
R: we have to live with confidence.
L: Look at my face—I’m yes—(I guess he is saying he is pretty.?)
Screen: L & R are showing GHS the way to be defiantly confident.
R: OK, now let us talk about the answers.
L: Regarding the question about being pretty, you really don’t think of yourself as pretty?
GHS: I have a face that I really like.
L: What face?
R: In terms of other celebrities?
GHS: like the faces of Lim Soo Jung and Jun Ji Hyun
R: I don’t think there is much difference. (laughter)
GHS: thank you

Since your movie is about to open soon, you must be quite busy with all the promotion schedules.
(looking intently at my name card) You do 3-D filming work? I am also very interested in 3-D. If I find out about the equipments and technical knowledge, I would like to make a 3-D movie.
Really? Our company also is trying to make a 3-D project so maybe this could be a great opportunity.
GHS: 그럼 좋겠다. 기회 되면 나중에 도와 달라.(웃음) That would be great. When the opportunity comes, I am going to call you to ask for help. (laughter)
So, you became a full-length movie director through YoSool. It is not easy being a director..
사는 것 같더라.(웃음) To me, it was very enjoyable. I really liked the process of the work itself. I felt so alive. (laughter)
You must get energized when you do something. Are you sort of a workaholic type who cannot be happy unless you are working hard?
I become a pain if I just stay at home. (laughter) I am a bit of an obsessive/pervert (laughter). I was told once that I was once a servant male=muh seum in my previous life. So I am a muh-seum who was born at the right time.
It must have been very different from filming a short-film, <Cheerful Caretaker>. How long did you prepare?
I started writing my script in August , started to go to work on it in July. (Does she mean August of 2008? And meeting the staff starting July 2009?) The cranking of the film started in January, 2010. Due to the movie being low-budget, I really could not give more time for preparation. I hurridly got things together and shoot it in 20 days? And edited the movie in 10 days. Did you happen to see it?
I did see it during the Critics Premier day.
Oh No!! That day, the sound effect was the worst quality. I don’t even want to think about that day! Even that day while the movie was being viewed, I kept on texting the PD-nim outside to check on the sound system. That day was just crasy!
When I see that, you really are a director.
Really> (laughter) The sound was fine yesterday at the VIP Premier. Sound changes the impression on the audience. Our movie has over 70% focus on music. Without the storyline, the music makes the story. If the music is missing or is not heard well, the audience will get a different feel. It was the worst on the day of the Critics Premier day. The sound was coming out from wrong places. It was suppose to come out nice and selectively but the wrong sound gave focus on wrong places. I think something went wrong when we were printing the movie.
Did you get to fix it to your satisfaction?
그리고 고쳐놓고 보면 또 고치고 싶고…, 그래서 이제 마음을 비웠다.(웃음) Honestly, no matter what I do, I would always feel like I missed something. If I start fixing, there is no end in sight because I would want to continue to fix them. So, now, I just emptied my mind of it. |

How did you first come up with your idea for YoSool?
After I saw cellist Song Young Hoon’s performance, I came up with the idea. Then I met up with the short-film family and planned it out. Then, I wrote the scenario. However, the final product became very different from the first draft.
Making a long film is a hard task. It is a task that not only do you have to trust yourself, but you would need to also take into account the opinions of the people around you. What was the most difficutlpart?
Time was the most difficult factor. If it was not a musical movie, perhaps it may have bee less difficult. It was stressful as the main focus was on the instrumental performance. If one story part ends, the performance must be filmed. That is why the lack of time was the most difficult part.
Usually, new directors tend to make their debut by greedily taking many film shots and then edit them out later. Do you mean that you really did not even have the time to do that?
I am not the type to film numerous shoots. I don’t even do many takes. I do not go beyond what was planned because it is harder for me to organize them later. Actually it runs the danger of becoming even more complicated and unclear. Our movie was originally planned to deviate from the normal and basic organizational structure of most movies. The characters’ personalities themselves are set up to be unclear; there is no traditional story-telling involved, and the movie’s style is to signify changes through cuts and only through music, everything is to be connected and seen. Actually out movie is not that hard to understand, but because of the methods, the audience may find it an uncomfortable film to watch.
If you only look at it from the story perspective, it is very simple. However, the music and the images emote an atmosphere of romance. And within this context, the movie brims with artistic nuances. This movie has no mellow scenes at all. However, strangely, many people have referred to it as a mellow movie mostly likely due to the special music and the atmosphere in the movie. If you put in music of love, it seems as if the people are in love. I love that kind of effect of music.
Are you saying that you did not plan to make YOSool into a mellow movie?
That is correct. You could say I hid things in the movie that are unexpected.
Although Jung Woo has been set up as a genius, I have never personally thought of JungWoo character as a genius. Under the circumstance, people can look at him that way. However, no element has been inserted into the movie to indicate Jung Woo character that way. JungWoo character never even properly performs on his instrument. He embodies the young who wants to be looked on as a genius by others and very ostentatiously at that. |

Myung-Jin on the other hand embodies the feelings of inferiority in youth. Honestly, MyungJin does not really like JiEun. It is because of his relationship with JungWoo that he acts that way. I showed his liking for JiEun to be felt through the tool of music.
Ji Eun embodies the young who tends to be extreme and who never communicates with anyone.
So these three youths’ story unfurls. It was interesting for me that, depending on the music inserted, their relationship can be seen as love. All the recklessness, misunderstanding and even music is misunderstanding. Through music, I wanted to create misunderstanding in the audience. The song’s lyrics, ‘embrace you in my arms and share a dream of love’ seem to signify the relationship between JiEun and Jung Woo and create a misunderstanding. Such misunderstandings come out in the beginning of the poem called YoSool. I was, in a way, looking at various situations by experimenting with images, music, and ?reversal cuts.
I sensed that you got along well with the staff. It must suit you to work cooperatively with others.
변덕쟁이다.(웃음) I am good at getting people together to tease one person. (laughter) I would pick on various people over the course of work, but one person who received most of my teasing was DirectorJO. On location, we fought the most. So I got everybody to take my side and ganged up on DirectorJO. (laughter) After the filming ended, DirecJO bought a iPhone and asked me to buy him a case. So I rolled up something with the large tape and gave it to him as a case. He then told me that he would never work with me. (laughter) On my way back form the Japan’s Film Festival, I bought him a case and now he says that he will work with me again. So fickle! (laughter)
In the past you have done other various activities like your novel, illustrations, compositions, etc. How is movie different from them?
I can do everything with movie. Music, writing, drawing all are related in a movie. In it, there is nothing strange or 4-D. I write, I draw a conti matching the writing, then I shoot images that match the conti, and I insert music that fits the images. I can do all at once with movie. If I were to separte each one, they would all feel detached and far away, but that is not the case with movie. People may think that I am doing so many different things but I feel that I am actually doing one thing. |

Then, have you been thinking about making movies for a long time?
원래 생각 없이 사는 애라서.(웃음) No, that has not been the case. But, Rep. Jung made me do many different things and somehow it happened. It is not that Rep. Jung discovered something unique in me. I originally was interested in many of these things, however, Rep Jung ignited the fire in me, If Rep would ask me to write something within a week, then there was nothing for me to do but follow. If she gave me homework to write, I would work very hard on it for a whole week. Then she would ask me to write a short film scenario. Then she would ask me to draw up a conti. When I did all that, she told me to shoot the film. 뭐 시키는대로 해야지.(웃음) I just did what she asked me to do. I was overwhelmed when she told me to shoot the film, but I went right into the work. Then she asked me to bring over my illustrations. She then asked me why I leave these illustrations only at home and told me to publish a book. When I told her my worry about writing a book based on my hobby, she said, the problem with books is selling them and that anybody can just publish books. That is how Rep, Jung gave me so many chances to do so many different things.
The fact that you always completed the homework make me think that you must have been a talented student also.
Rep. J told me to do it and I felt that I really did not have a choice. (laughter) But I was scolded a great deal. She would scold me by saying: You have been writing scenario for many years and this is it? I think person who writes with feet can do a better job. (laughter) Even so, she would still not give up on me and give me a new topic to do. Rep J gave the title, <Cheerful Caretaker>. After Rep, J passed away, I decided to make a feature-length film.
It seems like Rep J gave so much both physically and spiritually to Dire Goo?
In my life, I really met a great adult who led me to a great path. She is my savior. If I did not meet her, I would not have even imagined such a possibility for myself. People may think that I had opportunities because I am a celebrity. However, I was and am able to do this work because I met her. |

You have made a debut as a director very nicely. Are you going to continue to make movies?
I enjoyed it so much. The resulting product, movie, is movie. But I really liked working cooperatively with people. I rarely had opportunities to discuss, debate and work together before. In some way, a part of my life has changed. I want to continue the movie director work and I plan to continue.
Are you planning to do more director work than acting? Are you even thinking about completely switching over?
어찌나 놀려대던지.(웃음) I don’t have any intention to quit acting because I want to direct movies. Acting actually helps me with directing. Two jobs help each other. If I give up one thing, something will become lacking. While acting, I will further experience directing. While directing, I will learn and experience more through other actors. I really do not want to draw any separate regulations on the two. However, I will not appear in my own movies. I make a small appearance in YoSool. I thought I was dying. They were making so much fun of me. (laughter)
Your agency YG was your producer. Does your agency say anything about you doing more than just acting?
I think they just gave up on me. (laughter) Fortunately, Pres Yang is very similar in disposition to me. He does not tie me down. When I don’t have any schedule, I do not go around with my manager. The manager has his own life and so do I. When we work we are coworkers, However, I don’t see that he has to accompany me if I need to go to bank or something. It is not like he is my butler. (laughter) I really hate that. However, Pres. respects my inclination. It is just about my personal life. It goes the same for work.
Now that you have made a debut as a director, what does movie mean to you?
It is the ? jang~head? of communication. If novel, music, and art are the pieces of imagination, the movie is what you get when you mix nicely all these pieces. . (hard to translate this..)Not? fragmented like vision or hearing,,, these days, movies come out in 3-D. Movie is comprehensive and all inclusive and is the head or medium of communication. Besides the spoken words, movie uses so many different types of medium to endlessly encourage conversation/communication.
How quickly can we see your next work?
GHS: 벌써 하나 써놓긴 했다.(웃음) I did write one already. )laughter)
머슴.(웃음) She really must be a person who cannot sit still if she is not working. She really is a muh-seum~ a muh seum (the male servant who, in the olden days, must do all types of work with hardly any rest.) |

tempek fan acc...
thanks susAmerica for translations from soompi
KooReum or Cloud with Koo's name in it went to see YoSool and post her thoughts.
It was well-made. O O
And,I thought it very interesting.??
Maybe it is because I tend to like movies that enliven all senses.
I really enjoyed it very much...
After watching it, so much resounding effects from the movie....
People I went with also said it was a good movie,,Some even said that they are looking at Koo in a differnt light now. ke
Whether it will meet up with expection,,, keke,, when the movie started, I was very nervous...keke
The movie had power to suck me in and I was able to focus totaly on the movie,,,,
When the movie ended, the audience continued to sit in their seats...it made me feel nice and warm.
inserted into the movies here and there were scenes that made audience explode in laughters..also a scene that made us tear up,,,,
For my ?taste~wijooin, I tend to not like movies that leave nothing....
But, with YOSool, I am stiil have reverberations (after-effects)...
It makes me think,,,,It really is a movie that makes you think...
If I feel anything is amiss,,,
Because Koo mentioned so often that the story line is weak that I did not have much expectation,,,however, the story was above my expectation...
But, I felt that she could have portrayed the characters a bit more attractively..that was a bit amiss to me...
Especially, JiEun character is not a very kind character and that did not feel good--in terms of emotion...
There were people who found the movie difficult because of the time line that moves back and forth.
Maybe because I went to see the movie with some understanding of the summary that I did not have any trouble getting the story. ke
It was fresh and good for me. O O |

Music and cinematography were really so, so good...There was nothing in the background that was not pretty...It has been a long time since I experienced such precious rarity. It was a luxury. kekeke
But, maybe it is because Koo made the movie,, Whenever Koo came out on screen, I felt somewhat awkward, kekekeke Koo-nim has absolutely no lines. keke
In a word, it is a pretty movie.
A rarity. O O
I am so happy to see such a movie in a long while...
Honestly, it is not because I am a Koo fan,,a really pretty,,good movie,,,I really wish that we can spread the news about Koo's movie more widely.
Not only as an actress but as a director
she gave me a chance to believe in her as a director through this movie...
I really want to tell Koo-nim that she really worked hard,,,
Really,,,
I really am looking foward to Director Koo's next movie project..very much. O O
Truthfully....
Koo is really the best..
I want to read up on Koo's interview on YoSool and see it again.
