Ancelotti thanks to FIFA ban

Carlo Ancelotti believes Chelsea's transfer ban has lifted the pressure on him to deliver instant success, it has been revealed.

The Mirror says while the Italian will not publicly look for excuses, it is understood that he privately feels there can be no criticism if he just falls short of the trophies he aims to win when forced to deal with a squad which may not be able to cope with the rigours of a long season without reinforcements.

Ancelotti will be without Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou for up to five weeks as they head off to Angola for the African Cup of Nations.

Robben: A disaster for Chelsea

Arjen Robben believes some of the current stars could quit Chelsea due to the FIFA transfer ban.

The governing body imposed a 16-month embargo on the Blues after finding them guilty of inducing French teenager Gael Kakuta of breaking his contract with Lens.

And Robben, who left Stamford Bridge for Real Madrid and now plays for Bayern Munich, believes the issue could spark an exodus of top players if Chelsea's prospects are hindered by the ruling.

"It would not shock me if players left," he told the Daily Mirror.

"layers like John Terry and Frank Lampard love the club and they will probably stay.

"But I think players who have no long-term relationship with the club may leave. The top clubs in Europe will be looking at Chelsea players now, and if they want to leave there is not a lot the club can do to stop them.

"For one of Europe's super powers not to be able to sign a player for two years would be a disaster."

The Dutchman also suggested that FIFA were right to investigate the recruitment practices of big clubs.

"I don't know if they are guilty but if they are I agree with FIFA," he said.

"Big clubs think they are above the rules.

"In football there are lot of people trying to take advantage of you when you are a young boy and it is important the authorities do all they can to help protect them."

Transfer ban will motivate Chelsea players – Hiddink


Former Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink believes the club will receive good news from the Court of Arbitration for Sport in regards to the transfer ban imposed by Fifa.

The Dutch tactician also believes that whatever penalty is handed out, the players will respond positively and become more motivated on the pitch.

"It surprised me. I'm not into this matter, but the fact is that they reacted as they have reacted and should react," Hiddink told Sky Sports News.

"I'm very positive that there will be a good verdict in the CAS in Switzerland.

"On top of that I know the team will react more strongly than they are doing already in the beginning of the league.

"It makes them even better than they are now. They are strong physically, tactically and also mentally.

"You have to distinguish the legal things and the sporting side of the game, but it always gives a reaction."
