PUTRAJAYA: Calls by workers for employers to contribute 20% towards the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) will be discussed, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
"We have received such a request but we have yet to discuss the matter.

"It will be brought to Cabinet for discussions," the Prime Minister told reporters after launching the Labour Day celebration at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here on Monday (May 1).
Presently, employees contribute 11% of their monthly salary to the EPF while employers contribute another 12% or 13% of the salary, depending on the statutory contribution rate.
Anwar was asked to comment on Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI-MLC) 12-point request, which included raising employers’ EPF contributions and the retirement age.
He said that some 15 million employees are facing a myriad of challenges that need to be addressed.
Earlier in his speech, Anwar said that he wanted employers and employees including government representatives to be able to hold talks among themselves in an amicable manner.
He said that he did not want to see tension arising with regards to talks to improve the welfare of employees.

Workers' unions want higher employers' EPF contribution for those earning below RM4,001
PETALING JAYA: The Union Network International-Malaysia Labour Centre (Uni-MLC) has highlighted a number of key issues that should be addressed by both the government and employers as part of Labour Day celebrations this year.
Uni-MLC president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal called on the Human Resources Ministry to develop a new labour policy that would meet the needs and challenges of the post-Covid-19 era.

“The ministry should hold a dialogue with all stakeholders involved to review all the current policies and labour laws in this regard,” he said in a statement on Sunday (April 30).
He also recommended a number of other measures to help ensure the welfare of workers throughout the country.

“The contribution rate contribution to the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) from the employer's share should be raised from 13% to 20%, especially for employees with a salary of RM4,000 and below, to ensure employees have adequate savings when they retire," he said.
Mohamed Shafie also said that the mandatory retirement age of 60 should be reviewed and revised to allow employees to work longer.
“The application of the Employment Act 1955 (Amendment 2022) should be extended to workers in Sabah and Sarawak to guarantee their workers' rights and welfare are defended as a federal state.

Is anybody home? Is the alert completely error-free? That the address problem is so minor surprises me. Concerning tepek employer contribution basketball stars la road tax la. It's challenging to get an epf-eligible job despite widespread interest.
